In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

On January 10 th a 15-member team from the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, OH traveled to and spent a week of service in La Ceibita. The physical mission was to assist in the building of a 2 nd story structure onto the existing feeding clinic. The team completed the erection of stud walls and the installation of a metal roof on the second story, an accomplishment that exceeded the team's expectations, according to team leader, Todd Cox . Part of the team conducted a daily Vacation Bible School that included about 75 local children at the peak of attendance. Todd reports that Pastor Randy Webster and his family were most gracious hosts and took care of the team as though they were part of their extended family. Translator Alejandro Miranda was a God-send and made the experience for the team both fun and safe. The food, prepared in the parsonage kitchen by local cooks was wonderfully well prepared and much enjoyed by the team.
On the first Sunday of the trip, the team worshipped with the local congregation and participated in communion and in the celebration of a newborn into the church community.
The La Ceibita community of children and adults were so willing to be part of the lives of the team while they were there. At the end of the week the team reflected on the mission with praise and a new respect for the people of La Ceibita. Todd reports that lives were changed during this mission week and the team holds the hopes and futures of Honduras in their thoughts and prayers. Finally, the team extends a warm thanks to Ron and Loretta for their devotion to Honduras and looks forward to the next mission that God chooses for them. |
